The atmosphere balances playfulness and composure. Daylight filters through tinted planes, echoing the hotel-like character the client envisioned: comfortable, composed, yet subtly theatrical. Each space carries its own pulse; the kitchen grounded, the living area social, the bathroom intimate. Together they form a sequence of moods within a single continuous volume, where colour, proportion, and reflection perform in quiet coordination.

In a compact apartment within Arnhem’s Coehoorn district, we explored how light, tactility, and movement can create generosity within limitation. The space is designed for a single resident, but its gestures extend beyond function. Hidden transitions and reflective surfaces allow rooms to change mood and role throughout the day. By removing one door and introducing a mirrored threshold, boundaries soften and circulation becomes fluid. The apartment feels at once contained and open; a place that responds quietly to its inhabitant.
Materials carry both contrast and coherence. Plywood in black and white alternates between structure and surface, while coloured glass slides introduce moments of reflection and surprise. The detailing follows a domestic rhythm: edges align precisely, joints are visible yet calm. Every custom piece, from the growing wall cupboard to the transforming table, is conceived as both tool and companion. These crafted insertions bring depth to daily routines and keep the small plan alive with possibility.
